Archive for April 2014

I went to the bank for the first time by myself. he he he The funnest thing about it was that they now have a machine where you take a number and wait your turn. Taki and I had been there together just after they started this system. We got #46 and yesterday I got #46. That tickled me to no end. 😀 I went to a huge new super market (AB or Alfa Vita). It is beautiful, so full, modern, bright and clean. In Athens they used to have a lot of American products. Not here, oh well. That was part of my excitement when I heard they were going to open one here on Santorini. It was our 23rd Wedding Anniversary. I gave Taki roses and other flowers from the garden. (I take care of the garden). He bought me fresh strawberries. YUM! I watched 3 more episodes of Breaking Bad with Galatea. It rained like crazy in the night. I drove home slowly.

Today…I shelled about 5 kilo’s (11 pounds) of fresh peas, grown locally. It took me over an hour. My right shoulder was hurting and my hands were tired. I am getting older. I made a baguette into pizza with a few bits and pieces I had in the fridge and some sauce I had frozen from the last time Taki made pizza dough. I liked it. Michael-John wouldn’t touch it. Taki and George went home after I got to the shop. I will find out what they thought later. The sun was out for awhile then it was cloudy and cool and is getting cooler as the sun sets.

Michael-John is very happy some of his flower seeds have started coming up. I wish I had a camera to capture that moment and the ones to follow as he becomes a gardener.

I want a camera and an external hard drive. I also want to visit Austria to see my friends who come twice a year to the island. Time will tell. If things continue I may be able to save enough to go to the states in 2 years.

Thank God all our NEEDS are being met. Now if I could afford a house keeper I would try hard not to WANT anything else. lol

with love and faith, Deb

Anyone want to come and help me do this in my home?

Quiver Full of Blessings

April has come and it’s that time once more,

To clean out those closets and deep clean my floor.

“It will be fun!” I convince myself with a smile,

For it’s been a long winter and definitely a while.

There are dust bunnies under the couch and the bed,

And when I open my closet, something falls on my head!

Salt and muddy boots have made my floor a mess,

Cobwebs and stink bugs are lurking behind the desk.

So…I bolster myself and write up a long list,

Double-check my supplies, and of course, Pinterest,

Chug down some coffee  and eat some chocolate too,

For there’s lots and lots of hard work to do.

I start with the bathrooms, both upstairs and down,

Wiping and scrubbing, I am beginning  to frown,

How did the room get this dog-gone dirty!?

It’s not like I haven’t cleaned since I turned thirty!

SWEET SIMPLE STUFF

My family is laughing at me … not in a good way!  It is very obvious that the guys and I don’t think alike … eye rolling is going on with the laughing … probably because of this little Peep story!  It’s Easter time, Peeps and marshmallow eggs are everywhere!  We have a family of Peeps living at our house!  I am not an expert on Peeps, but this is what I believe to be true about The Life of Peeps …

Peep Family Eggmallows chocolate nests

It all began like this …

Peeps chocolate nests

Mr. & Mrs. Peep met … fell in love … married … set up house nest keeping … marshmallow babies eggs magically appeared in the nest … the eggs hatched … giving life to the sweetest little marshmallow chicks … they all lived happily ever after … the end!   That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it 😉  Pssst … I…

WARNING, WARNING, WARNING: members of PETA and those who do not eat meat, you should prolly keep right on scrolling past this post. I’m from Texas, and we love meat up in here.

Fresh on the heels of my post about big (pork) butts, I thought now would be a good time to share with you what it means in my house to go Whole Hog.

First of all, pigs are really cute, right?

cute-baby-pigs

You know what these are?

That’s right…Bacon seeds!!

And bacon is yummy. In fact, the whole darn pig is yummy—from the cute pink nose to the curly little pig tail. When I see a cute little pink piglet, I think: “aweeeee, that’s the cutest little pre-bacon EVER!”

Many cultures around the world have a traditional feast built on this premise.

First of all a very brief language lesson…

The Spanish word for milk is Leche. The…

Interesting Food Facts about Chocolate Mousse

So simple and looks so yummy!

Pepper Bento

You might have guessed by now that I have quite the sweet tooth.

I have to say it does give me the slight feeling of concern and guilt pouring massive amounts of sugar into things but hey….I’ll live with that!

If I’m honest, I made this Cinder Toffee so it could be eaten whenever something sweet was fancied and because it would last a while but………two batches kind of got eaten within a couple of days..whoops.

Cinder Toffee L

If it lasted long enough it would have been delicious sprinkled over ice cream.

The tins I used are some I found in a biscuit aisle and fell in love with.
I have to say I have a thing for tins and these had Celtic and thistle designs all in one, two of my favourites!

The shortbread that was in the tins was equally as beautiful and it almost felt like a shame to…

I will have internet access every day now.

The owners of the building where we rent the space for our shop have parked an old truck of theirs in the 2 car parking space next to our shop. They have now blocked us and anyone else wanting to use that space. They haven’t moved the old thing in over a week. oh well…

The guy who has the restaurant across the street had over half of his plants stolen over the Winter. That was what he told me when I asked him where all his plants were. Huge potted plants. That is a lot of money to replace them. The tavern next door has painted all their tables and chairs white. It is refreshing.

Maria and Yannis are still in Albania awaiting their departure date for England. They are healthy, young and in love. I still pray for them.

Michael-John continues to hate going to English school. He has joined a free German class that meets twice a week and he is enjoying that very much. Every bit of extra money he gets he saves towards getting a new chain for the bicycle that he has been re-building from lots of old thrown out bikes that he salvaged. He is almost ready after his birthday.

Haven’t spoken to Mom in days. I continue to pray for her. She has told me that she is going to be OK. Praise the Lord.

I am grateful to have a job but I would prefer to be a stay at home Mom.

wishing you faith, hope and love, Deb
